RIA12 Compliant Train-Borne DC DC Converter

The URB series from Mornsun are a range of rugged ultra-wide input dc dc converters, when used in combination with the specially designed FC series input filters they conform to the challenging requirements of EN50155 and RIA12 for train-borne applications.

The URB24xxLD with filter FC-AX3D-RIA has a 24Vdc input (range 9 to 36VDC); The URB48xxLD with filter FC-B02D-RIA has a 48Vdc input (range 18 to 75Vdc); The ultra-wide input URB1D with filter FC-CX1D-RIA is suitable for traction battery voltages of 72V, 96V, 110V & 120Vdc (range 40 to 160Vdc). Output voltages available are 3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V & 24VDC.

By virtue of their design for the harsh environment of the railway, they are also suitable for many other applications requiring a compact rugged dc dc solution. Available in 6W, 10W, 15W & 20W packages (URB1D), 20W package (URB24xxLD & URB48xxLD), with industry standard PCB pinouts, also available in chassis mount and DIN rail mount packages, with fitted heatsinks an option (15W+).

Conversion efficiencies are up to 90%. Isolation is 1.5kVdc; all models have EN50155 certification when used with the relevant filter. Built-in protection is included for input reverse polarity, output short circuit and over voltage.

These devices are convection cooled; the 20W URB24xxLD & URB48xxLD have an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The URB1D 6W & 10W have an operating temperature of -40°C to +85°C, the 15W has a derating temperature up to +60°C (+70°C with heatsink), the 20W to +55°C (+65°C with heatsink).

Applications include: Passenger reading lights; On-board Wi-Fi; Passenger USB hubs; Sensor control modems. The URB series and the filters are very competitively priced with short lead times of just 4 weeks as standard.
