Fanless Panel PC

A regional UK bus company serving rural communities approached Relec looking for a robust in-vehicle computing solution. Their drivers were struggling with outdated systems, poor GPS reliability, and clunky route management, especially across remote stops with variable passenger demand.
A compact fanless panel pc system that could survive pothole-ridden country roads and unpredictable power environments, all while improving operational efficiency.
We proposed the DFI KS156P-EHL, a high-performance fanless Panel PC featuring an Intel® Atom® processor, capacitive touchscreen, wide voltage input (9–36V), and built-in protections for vibration, moisture, and temperature swings.
But we didn’t stop there.
Relec worked closely with the customer’s IT and vehicle engineering teams to fine-tune the setup for the UK’s harsher winter climate, ensuring reliability across early morning starts and remote hilltop depots. We even helped integrate a custom mounting frame to suit the operator’s existing dashboards, one of those small tweaks that made a big difference.
Since installation, the company has reported smoother route planning, fewer hardware faults, and increased passenger satisfaction, particularly with a flexible “book-on-demand” stop system now enabled by the improved interface. Drivers are enjoying clearer navigation and easier data access, and the operator has seen a noticeable reduction in wasted mileage and idle time.
